Robert Smail’s Printing Works
I first visited Robert Smail’s Printing Works in Innerleithen when I was in High School as part of a drawing drip and instantly fell in love with the place. It first opened it 1866 and is still a fully functioning Victorian era letterpress printing works with all its original features still in tact, with the addition of a few modern, necessary appliances. Now part of the The National Scottish Trust as an Industrial Heritage Museum, it is open to the public for tours and the friendly staff are happy to take on small groups for a day of creative, typesetting fun…which is just what myself and some friends did…
